Will Carleton Academy has been serving the community since September 1998. At present, WCA serves approximately 250 students from kindergarten through grade twelve.
The curriculum is delivered through classic teacher-centered instruction methods. WCA is committed to character education, and utilizes the Core Virtues program to teach and reinforce essential moral values.
Will Carleton Academy was founded on the premise that all students can learn, but to succeed at learning and life, students need a sturdy foundation of knowledge and character to support their future endeavors. This foundation will be developed through a focus on core knowledge skill development, high standards of overall achievement, the capability to apply lessons learned to practical applications, the ability to know right from wrong, and demonstrating respect toward others.
The Core Knowledge Sequence developed by E.D. Hirsch Jr., a consensus-based model of specific content guidelines, forms the primary basis of the curriculum. It offers a sequenced body of content knowledge deemed essential for every child to acquire. It provides a guide to coherent content from grade to grade that is designed to encourage steady academic progress from year to year. This emphasis on academic content will restore the historic mission of education and well position WCA students in the 21st Century.
