Students are permitted to grow at their own rate, instead of one prescribed by rigid adherence to standardized expectations. The program is deeply rooted in the concept of community. The classroom supports diversity, working together, decision-making, cooperative learning and experience and a strong sense of belonging. The aim is to create a safe, familiar environment for children to learn and grow together. Summit is a community of learners, rather than a collection of students and teachers—sharing a commitment to each other and a common sense of purpose. Curriculum at Summit Academy is hands-on, child-centered and active. Activities in the studies are concrete and engaging. Summit incorporates project-based learning and real-life experiences where children become self-learners. |

Students are given the opportunity to enhance their growth through utilizing individual learning styles. High school courses provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum. It is aligned to the Michigan Curriculum Framework. Each benchmark for every student is tracked for proficiency. The evolution of the high school has led to the development of five leadership academies to meet the educational needs of students. The academies are: The Sports Academy, The Advanced Placement Academy, The Liberal Arts Academy, The Performing and Visual Arts Academy, and The Business and Technology Academy. The academy concept gives the school four distinct advantages. First, a laser-like focus on specific educational content. Second, a structure on which to build educational strategies and curriculum, as well as business partnerships. Third, the academies offer an incentive to students. Fourth, more focused time to meet the specific educational and vocational needs of students. |
