New Bedford Academy opened its K-8 facility in September 1998 and serves 175 students.  In 2003, the academy received North Central Accreditation.

Providing the community with a valuable option in public education, New Bedford Academy focuses on ability-based instruction and the individual needs of each child with multi-age classes and thorough integration of technology throughout the curriculum. 

NBA recognizes the value of authentic assessment of student progress and stresses regular communication with parents concerning each child’s academic growth, through both informal contact and established reporting procedures.  NBA utilizes a system of Teacher-Student-Parent agreements to establish and reinforce the good study habits essential to continued academic success

Technology is thoroughly integrated into the educational process.  Each classroom contains a computer center consisting of twelve desktop computers as well as a teacher workstation with an oversized monitor.  The students receive 30 minutes per day of scheduled access to the center for opportunities designed to supplement their small group direct instruction (directives).
